Words from a cousin

by Chelsey   Jul 7, 2006

Whenever I feel like I have no one
When I feel my voice isn’t being heard
I know I’d be lying to myself
Because I’d be forgetting her words

She said, ”Baby girl when your hurt I am
I absolutely love you to death
Just hearing those words brought me to tears
So hard that I could not catch my breath

She said, “You know I’m always here for you
You’re my baby cousin; my friend”
It’s when I hear words like those
I never want life to end

Because there have been nights in my life
Where I have cried myself to sleep
Forgetting I can turn to family
Who will always hear my every weep

Some people might feel that cousin’s
Aren’t very high on the family list
But sometimes you have to move people higher
Mostly the ones who are very much missed

But see my family list is different
Each member is on the first line
Because they are all number one to me
I can turn to them anytime

Just knowing she offered her hand though
Touches me in ways I can’t describe
Makes my eyes watery and gives me goose bumps
Really makes me feel the family vibe

I love you very much big cousin
You mean so much to me
You really know how to cheer someone up
And take them out of their misery

Just know when I get older
When I am able to drive
You and I will have some good times
And make this city come alive

Thank you for your support
I do appreciate how protective you are
Your encouragement and love in life
Will get me so very far

Now I know…

Whenever I feel like I have no one
When I feel my voice isn’t being heard
I know I’d be lying to myself
Because I’d be forgetting her words

A great poem about love and friendship and family. You are very lucky to have your cousin to turn to Chelsey-Lynn!

    Chels enjoyable read.

In stanza 2 you have " at the beginning but no the end...simple typo.

This was filled with so much love i could almost see it dripping from the words. You are a lucky girl to have family like this. Not everyone has a family they can turn to. I have a very small family but luckily we all support one another.
I am impressed with the rhymes used in this poem as I know you have said it to me b4, but i must say it now...the rhymes used were original and not the repeated one syllable words you see in MOST poems (not jus on this site).
I thought this was a very well written poem with excellent flow. Goog Write!
