A Cold Winters Night

by sarah lutz   Jul 9, 2006

I was wondering around the forest
On a cold winters night
When I came across a girl
She just didn't look right
She was sitting in a tree
Nearly ready to jump
Just a few more reasons
Then it'll be too much
I had to get a closer look
That little girl looks bad
I need to know if somethings wrong
I need to know if she's sad
Her dress was stained and torn
Her eyes so full of fright
Her hands and arms a bloody red
Her tiny hand held a knife
Her stockings dirty and ripped
Tears streaming down her cheeks
She was counting all the wrongs
I pray she doesn't leap
I know what its like to be there
I know that very place
I know the bloody marks
Every little trace
When I looked in that girls eyes
I just wanted to grab her and flee
Because I recognized the pain
She is a younger version of me
