Be Everyting - But What You Are?

by MemoirsOfMe   Jul 10, 2006

I sing a song,
A song of life.
This memoir of a teen,
Who died under the knife.

I tell a story,
A story of a girl.
This memoir of beauty,
She couldn't live up to give.

I give this sad struggle,
A struggle of a boy.
Who had to push to the extreme,
To show he really had what it took.

I share a tragedy,
Of a talented young girl.
Who looked in the mirror each day,
Saying, "I'm not good enough."

I tell a fight,
Of a teenage boy.
Who thought he had to work day and night.
To be the best sports hero.

I share a story,
Of a adolescent girl,
Who thought she must do acts,
Just to gain popularity.

I give these memoirs,
Of real-life issues.
How we see these images,
We see what we think we have to live up to.

We are pushed to the uttermost extreme.
To give what we thought had to be given.
But those voices inside our head
Are only of our Society.

They tell us...

Hold on, don't let go,
Fight it off, don't let it show.
Truth is there, look inside,
Never falter, never cry.
You can make it, just believe,
Keep it up, just try.
Be a hero, be a star,
Be everything - but what you are.

But what we are
Is all we are.
All we are,
Is what shines from afar.

Stop looking for what is right inside.
Listen to your own heart.
Because if we keep listening to Society,
They will only tear us apart.

Who said we must be this or that?
Because as I recall...
We are only what we want.

I liked this one but it feels kind of unfinished. The message is a good one, a perfect one, it fits the american society like a glove, but i feel likeyou could make it better. Form your other writing I feels like you could just make this better somehow. I donmtknwo what you would change, but otherwise its good and I did like it.
