Champagne and Cyanide

Champagne and Cyanide

Seems this old world has nothing left for me,
Heartaches abound as far as the eye can see.
Bittersweet lonliness just will not leave me be,
So I wait for death's hand to come set me free.

Friends have deserted me as far as I can tell,
My past relationships all went straight to hell.
Things that I once held high have all but fell,
Even if my soul was free it still wouldn't sell.

Debts that are owed me remain unpaid,
All my best made plans are still not laid.
The heat is on and I can't find the shade,
The light in my heart is starting to fade.

I've cried enough to fill the ocean's deepest floor,
Knocked like a madman on every closed door.
Tried hard to tell myself that less really is more,
My battleship sank before I ever saw the shore.

There is no cadence in this song called my life,
The point is broken on my double-bladed knife.
Even my best days have been filled with strife,
Seems trouble and pain took me as their wife.

I wonder why I remain in this unsavory place,
Destitute and forlorn with no smile on my face.
The only contestant in earth's angst-filled race,
Trying to forget things that time cannot erase.

I feel my whole existence has just been a pure waste,
A cotton- candy flavor that I'm not allowed to taste.
A rare treasure never found because it was misplaced,
I'm a champagne dream that has been cyanide laced.
