Conscription

by Christie   Aug 2, 2006

I know its long, but please read and comment, this means a lot to me.

*sings* steal my poem, and u will perish, u will perish, u will perish.. lol u get the idea. =D

Devoted to all victims of war, however indirectly.

--------------------------------------

Her desperate sobs were never heard,
As she looked into his eyes with vision blurred,
Her beautiful face shining with tears,
A face distorted, full of fear.

He held her tight, maybe the last time,
His heart breaking as he felt his wife cry,
Promising her that he will survive,
Vowing that he will return alive.

The last goodbyes, desperation showed,
He was pulled to the train, she hysterically wallowed,
Her all, her love, her life-long friend,
Conscripted to his frightful end.

To lose the man she so lovingly adored,
To be surrounded by guns, and victims of war,
Left silently waving as the train pulled away,
Enveloped by dread, overcome with dismay.

To the front line he was contemptibly taken,
Of happiness he was formidably forsaken,
Living life on the edge of mental breakdown,
Always waiting for the whistle, meaning take more ground.

Two months went past, the whistle was blown,
An enemy closed in, he was cornered and alone,
To his side, the enemy held a knife,
His dying thoughts were of his beautiful wife.

The man fell as his enemy ran,
One month later the doorbell rang,
A fearful wife came to the door,
With one look out, she fell to the floor.

A grim face helped her to a chair,
Two men sat opposite with faces bare,
Quickly informing the lady of her loss,
As she cried in shock, she looked across,

To the mantel piece, a photo lay,
Of her and her husband on their wedding day,
Such smiles shown, would never again appear,
As she realised the loss of her husband so dear.

The uniformed men, so quick to depart,
Left to break another widows heart,
From heaven, he saw her crying and distraught,
Still keeping his vow, he lives on in her thoughts.
