First Smile

by Eibutsina   Aug 2, 2006

Upon the time I was delivered the news
I was overwhelmed with my new destiny
In awe at what I had been chosen to perform
Unconditional love would be with me an eternity.
I touched my growing belly with inspiration
Rubbing my hearts every hope and desire
In the realization that life is what our love did create
Inner glowing warmth of passions fire.

Upon the time I told him of our blessing
He spoke of me, his woman and no other
He would be more honored to have, precious to share
As his boy child's beloved young mother.
I remember his words like it were yesterday
Eyes full of admiration and emotion so ecstatic
Promising everlasting devotion and loyalty
A family of our own and a baby son, so fantastic.

For the several months that did follow
I watched my body slowly change
My life of self indulgence did alter
Priorities did slowly too begin to rearrange.
Just like what he did promise me
A life of laughter, sunshine and family
I wanted a safer and better world
For my baby son to be born into thee.
A world of chance, of even remote peace
Where his freedom is reflected in opportunity
A great land of equality based on trust
Where there is a united strong liberty.

Aside from all those hours of pain
I would never hesitate to go through it all again
Each and every tear of my pregnancies trial
Did disappear into time when I saw my sons first smile.

Oh!!! My, this read is so full of memories
of when my son was growing in his mothers
tummy to the time he was born. Precious
as life is a miracle so we have also been
blessed with giving life and delivering life.
Thank you for sharing a wonderful poem,
