Broken friendship

Up till now you have been my best friend
I thought it would last till the very end
but apparently i was very wrong
we have been apart for way to long

it grows more awkward as we talk
the thought of me now makes you balk
there is another that has taken my place
it was done with such haste

why oh why have you shut me out
you have filled me with such doubt
you always forget everything i say
this situation grows worse everyday

now as i struggle not to cling
I feel like a bird with a slipped wing
when i had troubles you were there
you listened as i laid my heart bare

i guess now i will have to try
to let go and to say goodbye
our friendship now is a thing from the past
and i will slowly learn to let go at last
