My Baby Brother (Happy 19th Birthday)

by Eibutsina   Aug 12, 2006

I can almost remember the day you were born
Seeing you so tiny lying in that hospital bed
So petite your undeveloped features
Tubes connected through your little nose and head.
Dad took me in to see you the first time
I loved you before I even met you
The baby brother I had always wished for
A baby brother to grow up and grow close to.

Now I see you all grown up
Working and making a life as best you can
You've got a woman of your own your in love with
Believe me she's luck you are her man.
But to me you're still that little skinny boy
Who used to follow me around everywhere
Who painted his face black and cried at his own reflection
Who let me do his make up and style his hair.
Who used to play with me under the sprinkler
Who would container the grasshoppers we caught in the yard
Who would play cricket with Mums' garden rake
Who made growing up that little less hard.
The one who would take fish from the pond
Then persist to tell Mum that it was me
Who would blame me at every chance he could
I laugh when I think of how things used to be.

But this year you're turning nineteen
Haven't the years so quickly passed us by?
Our childhood days seem like yesterday
As I look at my baby brother with pride.
I want you to know how happy you have made me
Being your big sister and having you as my baby brother
For all the times I needed and you helped me up and out
I could never have asked for any other.
I love you baby brother you are my world
Not only my baby brother but my best friend
The admiration and respect that I have for you
Like our special bond will never end.

But now that I have moved away
You're stuck alone with mum and dad ;o)
I hope this poem can contribute to your nineteenth birthday
Being one of the best you ever had!

A bond between siblings... there's really nothing like it, and not everyone is blessed that way. I got lucky. Simply put, this poem has got to be one of the lovliest tributes I have ever read. It shows your genuine affection for your brother, and I just think that it is so sweet.
