Midnight

I’m sitting here all on my own
I look around the room
I here the ring of a distant phone
The clock says midnight soon
The door it creaks, a muffled thud
Sounds of the bewitching hour
The sight of red gives thoughts of blood
The dark gives fear it’s power
The hoot of an owl, it makes me jump
A step upon the stair
I listen for that ominous bump
And find the darks job is to scare
A high pitched noise, was that a scream
I see strange lights in the sky
Could it be an aliens beam
I let out a worried sigh
Are there ghosts beneath my bed
Scratching at the wood
I feel a tickle on the back of my head
I’d scream out loud if I could
I reach out through the cold dark room
Searching for the light
When suddenly out of the gloom
There came an awful sight
A shaded figure, is that what I think
Standing by the door
I turn on the light and my fears start to sink
The darkness is no more
The figure a poster on my wall
The noises just my cat
I’m glad I have light it was a close call
But wait, what on earth was that?
