I died a year ago

by martin metcalf   Aug 18, 2006

I died a year ago, in a battle so very close;

It struck me from above, it was my fault I suppose;

I died not in a foreign land, like my brothers in arms;

They fight for what we believe in, but they receive no harm;

I am dead and feel no pain, my loss a blow;

Now 12 months on, I know no difference;

No pain, no hope, no love or strain;

Forgotten by my leaders, mates, comrades and peers;

I died a year, ago but my body remains here;

Sat, thinking about who I used to be in a foreign land, sent to die....
