Anywhere

by free fall   Aug 22, 2006

She stares through the open door
frozen in momentary shock
realizing this is her one chance
to make the escape she\'s planned for months

a surge of energy comes
fills her with a confidence unknown
she takes a step foreword
praying for unheard footfall

it takes but a moment
to be out of sight of all
she pauses then. catches breath
lets her mind catch up with what she\'s done

suddenly, a scent of flowers
hits her hard in the nose
she looks around curiously
her eyes are caught by the night sky

she sees the vastness of it
not believing there could be so much
so many stars in her sight alone
and a moon so large, so luminous

a sudden peace flows over
she has a wild though. of life.
of living somewhere other than there
somewhere away from that box

a wild thought of life
...anywhere under that vast night sky
