The tears we have cried

by Michael D Nalley   Aug 23, 2006

The tears I've cried have cleared my eyes
I can see past the sorrow of the lies
Once I believed your lips were like wine
Although now they have the taste of brine

Saline mixed with wine trace lines on your face
Saddened by our sudden sinful fall from grace
Powerful passions of anger, pride, and lust
Tirelessly try to undermine our trust

Why do we both continue to hurt one another?
Are you not my sister? Am I not your brother?
In the eyes of the Creator so merciful and divine
That He gave us His blood to drink up like wine

A selfless servant who offered up His life
As any husband should do for a faithful wife
Have we got the guts? Have we got the spine?
To give to our loves and treat them that fine?

We can use our tears to amend our selfish ways
To end our useless turmoil to the end of our days
When my time is up, and I must face my doom
My prayer is to be born again as a faithful groom

The path the heaven is narrow, and the road to hell is wide
When we have to face the truth and there's no where to hide
I hope you forgive my shortcomings and remain right by my side
And we will better off because of the tears that we have cried

Aww. It's horribly sad...But in a good sort of way lol. I really liked how you managed to put the questions in. It really made the poem worth reading. I also liked how well the flow went. Great write! =) 5/5 xoxo
