Lakeside Laughter

by JL   Sep 1, 2006

Clouds shadow the tall weeds
As rain pounds down
Lightning flashes overhead
Thunder rumbles warnings

Long ago a place of beauty
Now overrun with weeds
Tangled among sticker bushes
Amid decaying leaves

Once a place of life
Killed without the sun
Smells of rotting wood
Linger with the kiss of death

Laughter echos in the silence
From people no longer there
Perfect place to get away
For those who do not care
