Animal or what?

by Electric Monkey   Sep 6, 2006

People look a me with such strange faces.
If only with them could I trade places;
They would know why I have such a grisly visage.
Maybe then they would get the message.

I am what I am because of something else.
It's in times like these I would like to melt,
Melt away into something to hurt no one,
But be splashed and enjoyed by everyone.

I hunt at night for another meal;
One whose fear and pain I can feel.
They say we're myths something of lore,
Until they see us walking through the door

I live in a house just like them,
But have a life with on larger problem.
I prefer the dark but can withstand the light.
I stay at home, though, until it is night.

I am not a werewolf, vampire, or sprite,
Though all of them emerge at night.
I prey on the dreamers and on the sleepers,
For I am their killer, the lone shadowkeeper.
