Despair

by ricky   Sep 8, 2006

I look at all the homeless people
Eyes filled with sadness and despair
What sent them down that road
Why did they end up there

They all have a tale to tell
Of a wrong turn in the road
And how everyone abandoned them
To carry this heavy load

Some are mothers and fathers
All are daughters and sons
They are all our brothers and sisters
These lost and lonely ones

So we send billions of dollars
To Pakistan and Iraq
While the homeless live in the streets
All they own is on their back

Its true they made bad choices
Ones they'll forever regret
But haven't we all made mistakes
Least of all we forget

When my time on earth is over
I hope my epitaph will read
Here lies Ricky, a kindred soul
Who cared for those in need
