Where Did Honor Take Him?

by Midnight Sun   Sep 11, 2006

*I know it's long but I promise it's good...so please read and comment, thanks! : )

We'll fight shoulder to shoulder
'I've got your back'
We'll get them good
At night we'll attack

You'll be honored
At home and far away
Your family misses you dearly
But with them you can never stay

You're in foxholes
And across enemy lines
You tell her over and over
You'll come back and be just fine

She's at home with the kids
And hears the phone ring
She answers it innocently
Without expecting a thing

She was told sadly
That his plane had gone down
They're looking furiously
But he's yet to be found

She always feared this call
But prayed it wouldn't come
She hung up shaking
Her heart beating as a drum

Days have passed
And still no news
She watched the phone constantly
Praying this fight he would not lose

They called once again
And told her he was there
He's recovering nicely
And he writes it off as a scare

He refuses to leave
And goes back to fight
But he's soon hit with a bullet...
Will he die, tonight?

There is no call
But rather his friends
They step out of the car
To report his tragic end

They knock on the door
Dressed in their uniform
Holding his badges
Ready to inform

She answers the door
And falls to her knees
"Do not say it!
I beg of you, please!"

So now she must live
With the fact that he's gone
And years are passing
His death is forgone

So where is this honor
That he so proudly wore...
Where did it take him,
Now that he exists no more?

Sad but true in these trying times of war. Very heartfelt. Didn't mind the length at all. Flow was good and the message one that has been passed down and felt by all.
