A Cross

by JL   Sep 17, 2006

Church bells toll
Echoing through the town
Rain pours onto the crowd
Sliding off their slick coats
Dampening the fresh earth

Tears run rampant
Lost within the wind and rain
Heart-wrenching sobs
While coffins slowly lower
Disappearing into the ground

Mothers, fathers, brothers, daughters
Can not look any longer
Collapsing into loved ones arms
Wishing their baby, their brother, their sister, their hero
Would come back

When the crowds clear
All that remains is a cross
A cross for their heroism
A cross for their life
A cross for freedom...

God bless the soldiers and their families.
