What is beauty?

by Brooke Amity   Sep 22, 2006

What defines us a beautiful and is it really fair?
Is it the song that your heart sings or the colour of your hair?

Does being thin make you win? Or is it just a bonus?
Should the image in the mirror be allowed to own us?

Can self worth really be decided by the number on your scales?
Should I wax my legs and paint a colour on my nails?

Do I pale my face and darken my lips?
Do I change the colour of my eyes and thin my hips?

Do I morph myself into the models in the magazines?
Does anybody else see this as obscene?

If my legs are smooth and my arms are tanned,
Does that mean you will love me and be my man?

If I wear the same clothes as you and copy your style,
Will we then be friends, will it make you smile?

If you can show me off to your friends, have them comment on my looks,
Does that make you proud? Will you put me in the family scrapbooks?

Are these the things that make us pretty?
Are we living in a society that is really this petty?

If you can judge others and be so shallow,
Then it is you that loses, for you are hollow.
