Everybody crys (graduation speech)

by nickie   Sep 22, 2006

Walking down the halls,
trying to hold in the tears,
as I replay the memories,
of the past four years.

The locker combinations,
that we'll never forget.
The tardies for classes,
that we don't regret.

The 6am wake-up calls,
to only sleep during class.
Begging to leave the room,
only so you can get a hall pass.

As you walk through the halls,
you pretend you want to leave.
But only to stay in the bathroom,
so noone will see you grieve.

You try to be happy,
so noone will see you cry.
As you let the past four years,
pass you by.

The day of diplomas,
the hardest day yet.
The day you remember,
the memories you'll never forget.

As you hear that song playing,
you fall into line.
As you walk down the isle,
for the very last time.

You just sit in silence,
and your body is very still.
As you watch the room,
begin to fill.

The names are called,
one by one.
You walk across the stage,
for you're almost done.

As you take the diploma,
there's nothing but tears.
This has been your home,
for the past four years.

As the room begins to cheer,
the confetti flying away.
You sit there in silence,
for this is your last day.

The memories of everything,
play over in your head.
For your childhood is over,
and your adulthood is ahead.

As you walk down the isle,
you don't dry your eyes.
Because the greatest lesson learned in high school is,
that everybody crys.
