Skin Deep

There we were, the two of us,
Giggling and smiling,
Though for me its only ever skin deep,
That smile can only last so long,
Before it starts to fade,
And the cracks start to show...
Before losing control,
Trembling and shaking,
Heart consumed by emptiness and longing,
She gazes at me, eyeing me sceptically,
So cold i mutter,
More so inside than out...
My mind snaps back,
And there we were once more,
Giggling and smiling,
Though for me its only ever skin deep..
