Walk the Walk

by Michael D Nalley   Oct 2, 2006

At times we tenaciously talk the talk
While we wander from walking the walk
Looking back at the path of perdition we've tread
We wish we had chose another course instead

Not only do we wish to leave our past behind
Some fantasize what it would be like to rewind
Living our life without passion, reason or rhyme,
Is it a meaningless waste of precious time?

What kind of pleasure is love that we treasure?
Some find in leisure a peace beyond measure
Silent serenity seems to never linger, or last.
Easy does it, no need to take your steps too fast.

We should move toward good orderly direction
Although on earth we will never reach perfection
It's just not enough for us to talk the talk
We must all apply ourselves and walk the walk

Let me start by saying: 5, and you're going on my favorites. Expect to get a few more comments in the near future.

Next: Two suggestions. One is simple; I think the "chose" in the last line of the first stanza should instead be "chosen." I might be wrong. The next is a little different:
"Silent serenity seems to never linger, or last.
Easy does it, no need to take your steps too fast."
These lines don't conform to the syllable count in the same stanza, though they do match each other fairly well. The way I see it, you have two options. Separate them into a different stanza (not suggested) or shorten them, like this:
    Silent serenity seems never to last;
there's no need to take your steps too fast."

Keep in mind that all my suggestions are just that: suggestions. You don't have to change anything.

In any case, I've forgotten what I was going to say next. Excellent job here, maybe the best of the three of your poems I've read so far.
