A Friend

by elvenfire   Oct 3, 2006

I can make rhymes about rainbows
But not about her smile

A smile that can lit up faces
And banish clouds awhile

Her presence soothes my soul
A friendly hi, a heart's call

And when the rains batter down
Unceasingly in my life

She is the kind, gentle anchor
From the coming tide

An unknown face, yet full of grace
In life's hard lessons she learned

In facing all the adversities
A heart full of wisdom gained

So to what shall I, can I compare her?
This friend who smiles and bears?

A warm solitary wind,
A survivor from the cold

A sailing ship that glides through life
A heart both shy and bold

A friend who lets the sunlight in
When all the world has turned dim

But knows when to pull the curtains down
She lights the last candle without a frown.
