A poem of war

by Bekka Smekka   Oct 5, 2006

The planes that fly above us drop poison in the sky, some people have already caught it and the children will soon die.

we walked into the battlefield, guns and swords at our sides.
they came from all angles, no way to get outside.

many men died that day, its easy to be said, and all the ones i love i know will soon be dead.

nothing good comes from fighting, its a lesson to be learnt.
the killing is still happening and the villages are burnt.

the nights are cool and steady but the injured people cry.
theres not alot of food left, but at least we're still alive.

the elders are still arguing, my family tries to hide.
the gunshots are getting closer
and i know we won't survive.

we leave the burning village to a place of peace and love.
as i walk the steps to freedom i see a golden dove.
