Pivotal Moments

November 4th, 1990-A pivotal moment in my family's history.
My parents were bestowed two gifts, namely my sister and me.
My name is Sierra McGrath; Savannah is the name of my twin.
And our birth is where these pivotal moments begin.

I had my sister, Savannah, when I felt the world would end.
I had my mother, Deborah, who will forever be my best friend.
My father, Pat, joined the coast guard and left me every year.
And it was watching him leave me that I realized my worst fear.

I never want to be forgotten, or ever left behind.
I dread the day I severe the love I've come to find.
But I'll never forget those days that I've spent with love,
Nor could I ever forget my dreams or lack thereof.

My sister dreamt of being a dancer, I dreamt of saving a life.
My sister hoped to be a hero, while I dreamt of being a wife.
So different at heart, though incredibly much the same,
I dreamt of finding inner peace, while she dreamt of finding fame.

I can never forget my first kiss, the memory simply won't leave.
It was awkward, silent, and we were both incredibly naive.
I'll never, in my lifetime, forget the boy that I held dear.
I thought my love would last, but it faded over the year.

Savannah and I shared everything, and at times it was great
While others, we were stingy and selfishly irate.
We argued over movies, rarely agreed on anything on TV.
But our favorite movie has always and forever will be E.T.

Fifteen years have passed and I'm facing growing pains,
Learning how to drive my life and constantly changing lanes.
Years have gathered and the clock seems to tick too fast,
But these pivotal moments make an unforgettable past.
