Ode to a Passed One

by Hanna   Oct 16, 2006

*PN: I wrote this after the death of my Grandad who died a few years ago. I decided to write about it when we were told in school to write a poem about someone we admired. Please leave a comment on what you like or how I could improve. Thank you for your time. Enjoy!

I look up to the sky at night,
And think about when he was here
About all the times, good and bad
That I hold so dear.
When I was with him
I didn't seem to care
I didn't think he would go so fast
I thought he'd always be there
But how wrong I was to think those thoughts
To think he'd never go
But even when his time did come
His pain just didn't show
That is what I admired,
How he smiled every day
As if he wasn't ill
As if he wasn't fading away
You'd never ever see him
With a frown upon his face
Even when he was nearly gone
He kept his smile right in place
He'd even hold me close
With all the power he had
Just to try and make me feel
Anything but sad
I'd hear his heart slowing
My tears falling with every beat
It amazed me how he stayed so strong
Even though he looked so weak
Then one day he was actually gone
And although everyone did cry
We all cherished the thought
That he was happy when he died
I guess it's taught me a lesson
To be happy for every day
To try and see the positive side
When bad things come my way
That I should crack a smile
Even when I want to cry
That I should live life to the full
As if tomorrow I will die.
