Human Nature

by Alexis   Oct 22, 2006

Can we smile in the face of death
and forever be the same
Heartily laughing at fear's disgust
addicted to this silly game

Can you hold my gentle heart
in the roughness of your hand
or shall the forgotten past retort
and turn our shallow souls to sand

Are we strong enough to grow
And face our evil deeds
Will love ever be the key to
Fill our endless needs

Where do we go from here
To find the ultimate truth
Or are we destined to forever lay
in the filth of human vermouth

And you say you're new to poetry? Bull! What I mean by that is that you're a natural at it. I've been writing poetry for years. That doesn't make me an expert, but trust me on this. If you are indeed new to poetry, then it's rare to find someone just starting out with your talent.
