Spiraling into divinity

by Gwynne   Oct 22, 2006

Spiraling into divinity
He bloodstains on the carpet,
The nails digging into my skin
Forgetting as I go

Tear follows tear
Beat follows beat
Down your cheek
Through your heart

When you draw the curtains
And pour the tea
Broken roses, scattered petals
And shattered angels
Fall to the ground

Step follows step
Crash follows crash
Out the door
Through the windshield

I spill the milk
And stir the sugar
As we look to the window
For conversation

Standing, watching,
Flooded by the calamitous silence
Of this continuous battle
Of adoring wonder
And fatal knowledge

Thought follows thought
Move follows move
Off the roof
Of a 24 story building

Dismal intelligence forcing down
Upon insignificant sings of hope
Locking doors, closing windows,
Nothing left but the weakness to sit
The strength to think

Fall over fall
Scream after scream
Just 15 more
Stories to go

The torture of thought
Amplifies by certainty
Of helpless dependence

Tear follows tear
Beat follows beat
Step after step
Crash after crash
Thought by thought
Move by move
Fall over fall
Scream after scream

And then it’s gone
