A Mangled Heart

by alone in the crowd   Nov 4, 2006

It was three days before they found it
hanging in a noose above my head
dangling was the lifeless heart that was stolen from me
no longer beating
no longer loving
i lay beneath it no feeling inside me
people gather around and try to comfort me
but my loss is too great for them to know
he had taken my heart a long time ago
he decided then, when he knew he possessed it, to begin tormenting my pulsing muscle
each seduction followed by harsh words pierced my heart
i couldn't stop him
each time he would cradle me in his arms and then let go
i cringe at the sound of his laugh as i fell and my heart crushed more
and then finally he stole it
his sweet words overtook me and my body
i gave him everything
there was nothing left
he hung my heart in the noose and dropped it
it took them three days to find it
