Beyond This Rock

by Chris Rodriguez   Nov 12, 2006

When I wake up so early
I get the feeling and it's sinking
I waited for you by the church steps
But I'm really crossing my fingers
Because since I told you
Neither of us knows what to do
Hey, it'll be alright for you
Your boys a real Irish tank
It's god you have to thank
Boys like me got to learn to steal and run

Life ain't easy that's understood
But when you're living in a dead end town it's hard to find much good
I've tasted freedom beyond here once
Across the ocean where it's never gray or rainy, there's no balance
Even there the rain still follows me
Your god damn beautiful face is all I can see
Well tonights for me and the drinks are free
Trade these weights for some wings
Smell the ocean, and throw some flowers
Show no emotion, and stare for hours

Demon days are still creeping around
The streets are filled with my generation of sound
Kids got to hide to survive
It's our turn, but they don't recognize we're alive
Other kids wear baggy jeans with popped collars
Hey man, this isn't us whats the reason you hide your scars for?
Where's the certainty of being yourself anymore?
If things aren't going to change soon
I'll be out of here by June
And I want you to know that trips always open

There's got to be more than they tell us
We have to take a chance and ride that bus
Well, you said I was a good friend to talk to
If you think this is where it ends you don't have a clue
Beyond this rock is something neither of us ever knew
It's so true and I'm telling you
Takes more than wings to escape this cage
We need to get out while we're young
And someday I swear before all other songs have been sung
We'll climb that ladder to the sun
