Our Daughter

by gasping for air   Nov 12, 2006

She's laying there,
In the next room.
She's too young to understand,
What you're doing.
Too young to understand,
Who you are and why you're not here.
Too young to understand,
That you should be here,
Or that you should have been different,
So that her mommy and daddy could stay together.

My heart aches for her,
She deserves so much better,
So much more,
Than the little you give her.
Because of you,
Her heart will ache,
And she'll think that she's not worth anything,
That's why daddy doesn't come to see her.

She's laying there,
In the next room.
She's too young to understand,
What you're doing.
Too young to understand,
Who you are and why you're not here.
Too young to understand,
That you should be here,
Or that you should have been different,
So that her mommy and daddy could stay together.

If you continue on this path,
Claiming you want to be involved,
But only seeing her when you feel like it,
She's going to end up confused,
Hurt, and feeling like she's unloved.
You may very well ruin her,
And I can't stand for that.

She's laying there,
In the next room.
She's too young to understand,
What you're doing.
Too young to understand,
Who you are and why you're not here.
Too young to understand,
That you should be here,
Or that you should have been different,
So that her mommy and daddy could stay together.

I won't let you do it to her,
I won't let you hurt her,
I won't let you break her,
Like you did me.
I lover her more than anything,
And even if she can't count on you,
She'll always have me here,
Forever and always,
Unconditionally.
