Not My World

by KelseyinWonderland   Dec 5, 2006

I'm just a shadow
Standing by myself.
I've been living my life
High upon this shelf.

I've never seen the world
So dark and overgrown.
With hatred and despise
My heart has never known.

Have I been away so long
That this is all they know to do?
This world is misunderstanding
And will never see it through.

You are all to blame
And try to hide you may.
But you would greatly benefit
If you listened to what I had to say.

You've turned your back and now
You are beginning to realize.
Nothing good will ever come
From rancor and trivial lies.

Yet you continue to corrupt
And never change the way you live.
You see all misleadings and mistakes
That you aren't willing to forgive.

You always mean the opposite
Of everything you say.
It's such a shame for all of you
To live your lives this way.

You regret your every action and
Continue to do what you know is wrong.
You're never true to yourselves
Instead you play along.

You pretend to be who you are not
And I just don't understand your ways.
How you've let the world come to this
And readily let all morals fade away.

They may make a joke of this
They may laugh in my face.
I just wish they could see
How this world is going downhill in a violent disgrace.

In patient solitude and hope
I will forever wait.
A better world will come to those
That believe it's not too late.

Very powerful ending, it sums up the whole poem perfectly.
