A Reason For Suicide

by KelseyinWonderland   Dec 13, 2006

She is the girl in the corner.
Slitting her wrists.
Hiding from the world.
Balling up her fists.

She has no friends.
She has no life.
Her only comfort;
Razorblades and knives.

And they all stare at her.
As they toss her name into the air.
They laugh and makes jokes.
Because they really don't care.

She disguises her pain.
She won't let them see.
She just wants to be normal.
Instead of a freak.

They push her to limits.
She has not yet discovered.
They force her out into the open.
The reasons ahead hover.

They say she doesn't feel it.
She can't even feel at all.
No use in talking to her.
It's like talking to a wall.

But they don't see her cry out.
To whoever will hear.
How they all destroy her.
And how they always will.

She doesn't want to give up.
But they seem to leave no choice.
As she holds the knife in her hand.
She hears each mocking voice.

They saw no harm in the game they played.
They didn't realize it was a mistake.
They didn't know this is the way it would go.
They didn't know a life they would take.

She prayed to God that they would change.
Her heart went out to their own.
She wasted every shooting star.
Wishing she wasn't alone.

She collapses to the floor so violently.
Realizing her decision.
She raises up the cold, steel knife.
And makes a deep incision.

Pulsing blood escapes so fast.
From her pale, tender arm.
She knows exactly what she did.
It comes as no alarm.

The pouring blood creates a stain.
On the hardwood floor.
If only these walls could talk.
They would make you beg for more.

She silently dies and every tear she cried.
Was a reminder to all that would.
Realize the way they act can kill.
She's living proof that it could.

She doesn't show up at school the next day.
But nobody really knows.
She never stood out or lit up the room.
Her absence wasn't shown.

Then one curious girl stands up from the crowd.
And asks "Where is she?"
Nobody knows, nobody cares.
Because nobody heard her plea.

All week she never came
They didn't know why and people soon thereafter saw.
The news that they heard was so unbelievable.
It stunned, it shocked, it awed.

They were all told the truth about this girl.
They were all told that she had died.
Furthermore, her death was not accident.
It was regrettably suicide.

An assembly was held that afternoon.
It was held during a drizzling rain.
For every drop of rain that fell.
They all felt remorse and pain.

They know why she did it.
They know why she wanted to die.
They had hurt her so badly.
They all started to cry.

And now they all see.
The danger inside.
Their "harmless jokes".
An innocent girl died.

Three years later they visit her grave.
They drop single roses on a polished granite gravestone.
They say silent prayers to ask for forgiveness.
For making her feel so alone.

They saw their mistakes and they tried to change.
The joy in their hearts died.
They send out a message to all teens and adults:
Ridicule and name-calling can result in suicide.

Thank you very much. I wrote this poem because I feel that people need to see how much their words hurt. They don't seem to realize that in just the words they say they can drive people to suicide. It happened to one of my friends and I felt I should just get the message out to people before it becomes a bigger issue. Suicide is becoming more of a threat everyday and the leading cause is the remarks from their peers. thank you once again for your comment.
