To You I Leave My Heart

by alone in the crowd   Dec 14, 2006

To mother I leave my soul she built it up and secured my faith
to father i leave my mind. he powered it and taught me all i know
to sister i leave my laughter. she worked for it and earned it with her jokes.
To you, my love, i leave my heart. you are the reason it beats each day, you are the passion that flows in its veins, you are the throbbing contractions in my chest; the fire that burns beneath my ribs; the loss of breath in my lungs. To you, my dear, i leave what you have nurtured and cradled. What you have healed when hurting and bandaged when broken. I leave to you, my dear, what has always belonged to you. i have merely kept it in a safe place. Merely in a chamber to which only you hold the key. To you, my dear, i leave my heart.
