Butterfly

by Landi Cordier   Dec 27, 2006

I used to think,
That we both were broken butterflies,
And that together we were whole,
But now I know that I was only broken,
When ever I was with you,

So now I let my ribbon go,
I let loose of the rope you hold on to so dearly,

Letting go of yesterday,
And all the years before,
Letting go of yesterday,
And all the fears it bore.

Forgetting about tomorrow,
Forgetting of the future we had planned,
Forgetting about all our dreams,
The make-belief,
The movie scenes.

Trying to ignore today,
Not remembering all the games we played,
Ignoring today,
Ignoring your silly, stupid ways,

From of today,
I sing my own song!
Today I spread my wings and fly

The rhyme scheme wasn't consistent or the flow but the message and the metaphor beautiful! I especially like the last stanza.
