The Dark

by Black night   Jan 31, 2007

Here in the dark I wait,
with the eternal gloom surrounding me.
I hear the creatures of the night,
as they draw near,
their feet and claws on the dank floor.
I can see their eyes, harsh pinpricks of red
staring at me,
sizing me up.
I can hear the thunder clash,
and the storm draw up overhead.
Harsh winds blow,
wrapping my clothing around me.

Here in the dark I wait,
feeling that mist and smoke surround me.
I feel everything around me,
I can feel them draw closer.
That putrid breath, rotten flesh,
the dark damp of the eternal gloom.
Here i stay,
waiting for you.

Lightning strikes, and i can see for a second.
That one second.
A lone figure far off,
waiting in the dark.
Huddled in the wind,
hiding from the beasts of the night.

Darkness.
Here i wait.
But you will never come.
For neither can see
into the black.

And so we stand.

Here in the dark we wait.

But we will never find
