A "friend" ?

by Danielle   Feb 8, 2007

On your face you wear a smile,
in your heart you shed a tear,
you lie and you hide deep within,
with no one to penetrate your thick skin.

You want happiness,
you crave difference,
you are unique,
yet you are simply oblique.

You are silent when times are serious,
you avoid conflict and laugh negativity away,
Sarcasm is your defense,
But, my "friend", don't you see this is child's play?

I thought we were close,
we even lived together,
shared shoes and clothes,
tears and laughter.

Yet, I still do not understand you,
who are you and what do you stand for,
I look at you and see a charade,
Someone who fears reality.

Do you have a true friend?
Are you a true friend?
Can you be true to others, if you are not true to yourself?
Perhaps I was naive in thinking you meant what you said.

Stop looking at me with false eyes,
Stop pleasing me with lies,
Stop the artificial smile,
Just stop pretending in this trial.

I don't want your fake attitude,
I don't want your disapproving grin,
I don't want your sickening laugh,
I just wanted to be a friend.

A friend doesn't lie,
A friend doesn't cheat,
A friend opens up,
A friend runs deep.

You, my "friend" are not what you seem,
I don't want this fairy tale dream,
I'm letting go for my own sake,
So good bye, I'm saying farewell,
To you, an empty shell.
