The Wings of an Angel

by Chantelle   Feb 12, 2007

My eyes, they saw
The heavens above
An angel whispered
It's your time, my love

She held out her hand
Sincerity in her eyes
"It's all up to you
Whether you live or die."

The knife in my hand
Dropped to the floor
A tear fell from my eye
And then a dozen more

Was this my imagination
Or simply a dream come true
With wings so perfect
It's something I must do

I sat up slowly
Reaching out my hand
Living with this pain
Wasn't in my plans

I followed her closely
To the edge of the cliff
I said all my prayers
And my body became stiff

"Trust me, my dear" she said
With her voice so soft
"It'll only hurt a little
But you'll never get lost"

I looked down silently
As I took that final step
But the wings of an angel saved me
Before I could take my last breath
