President's day

by Independence Forever   Feb 20, 2007

Today we honor in my opinion more than two president's
we honor all forty-three commander-in-chief residents

from Washington to bush they served us for many many years
to do so they put their lives up to it, they left their spades and shears

sometimes they were not up to snuff, not on the peak
but they can't be perfect, for millions they have to speak

the burden of leadership is theirs alone, a very hard job
I'll bet one or two on occasion had to just sit and sob

they have lost family members and friends
their inner turmoil never really ends

so i salute presidents now, then, and forever more
when they take their oath of office, they know the score
