Down the Lane

by LadyPearl   Feb 21, 2007

Whisper heart and feelings
as though sorrow left no stain
Swallow sand past fingers
Crushed petals beneath white rain
Childhood fly in before you
Lightning soon came fast
Yet a single silent moment
Show what is still to last

Down Drury lane a child
With soft mouth and golden hair
Faint memory of both you and I
Glancing the sky, much aware
Yet with old age our beacon fell
Rain and sky turn to desperate muse
Spinning strings within our hands
Humming old lullabies and blues

but Love reveals the light in eyes
While night sleeps in sweet surrender
Though photos may turn to orange dust
Our laughing hearts remain tender
These little lines are not from frowns
But from smiles from years of grace
Down my lane of broken pebbles
Still lies a young beautiful face

    Wow.
    I basically am left speechless.
This is the greatest poem I have read in a while. It flows beautifully, like a calm river.

I especially loved the first stanza --
    "Whisper heart and feelings
as though sorrow left no stain
    Swallow sand past fingers
    Crushed petals beneath white rain"

I like this, it invokes the image of fleeting seasons and random emotions entangled in the flow.
    great job.

My only suggestion would be to switch beautiful and young in your final sentence. I think it might flow a bit better but that's just me. Otherwise I rarely enjoy life poems but this one had so much visual images in it, some much to be felt, so much to be heard, I was drawn to every word until the poem came to its close.

This is beautifully written. It's so descriptive, which made it very enjoyable to read. Not to mention you kept a nice flow. I also liked the fact it I wasn't reading something I felt like I just read, if you know what I mean. 5/5
