Growing Up

by Orion   Mar 4, 2007

We're brought into this world
Naked and unknowing
And supposedly as we get older
Our feelings should be growing

Adolescence comes and we get thrown for a loop
Teenage years quickly follow
It doesn't get better, that is for sure
As every day we look for tomorrow

Tomorrow comes at last, last day of high school
Where to now, is the question at hand
Everyone leaving you for different places
Something rather hard to understand

Adulthood now, monotony all
Up, work, home, sleep
Rinse and repeat and that's two days
Keep going in this cycle and along you will creep

Now old and aged you sit and think
In your chair or bed
What was I reaching for those long years past?
This and other thoughts slowly escaping your head

Now finally your heart ceases and stops functioning
Your loved ones lay you down for final rest
Weeping and crying, of course sad for you passing
Though in and of itself not much of a test

Their own journeys are going as well
Crawling through the slow slip of time
Growing up day by day
Learning the emotional pantomime

We teach and we learn
We live and we die
The constant is growth
And how underground we all shall lie
