Sam

(true story, wrote this when I was 16)

On August 15, 1992
I received a phone call from a friend
That was how I found out
That a very good friend was dead.

They said it was an accident
But that just wasn't right
Because the guy was drunk
Running a red light.

Sam was only 14
Much to young to die
His whole life ahead of him
I can't help but wonder why?

He always wanted fame,
To be on the front page of the news
He got his wish because of a man,
Who drove while drinking booze.

Three days before he died,
He was talking to a friend.
He said he knew for sure
Before he was 18, his life would end.

"If I died today," he said,
"I know I'd go to hell,
I've hurt to many people,
More than I could tell".

I don't want to believe that
He must be in a better place
I close my eyes, I can still see
The funeral, and his face.

His best friend Ray was there
On the night he died.
he held him in his arms
And stayed there by his side.

The man who hit him never stopped,
He just kept driving on.
He never even cared
That someone's life was gone.

So next time you think
That it's all in good fun
While your driving around
Even if it's only just one,

Please think of my friend
Who was still so very young,
Only 14 years old
Sam Hubble is gone.
