Downtown's Chaotic Silence

by Fighter (Ariane L.)   Mar 27, 2007

Bright lights flash above stores,
As we walk along the pavement.
Distant stares refuse to meet my eyes,
As they all seem stuck in a world of their own.

Parts of conversations echo in the night,
As they talk into their beloved cellphone.
Music fills the chaotic silence,
Blaring its powerful melody.

I see a couple holding hands,
Engrossed in their own passion.
While on another street corner,
Another couple's angry whispers
-------Sound at my ear.

A few teenagers huddle at a club entrance,
Smoking a joint: high on life.
While a homeless woman roams the streets,
Begging for a small amount of money,
------To survive in this world.

As I look around, I see us as we are.
Different, yet at the same time,
------So similar.
We roam this life,
------Searching for a part of ourselves.
