Filling and Drinking my Cup to Death

by LadyPearl   Apr 3, 2007

Another war--another break in peace
Most thought Vietnam was bad enough
Another thought, another dried out piece
Another time when media leads in bluff

So many dead, many more to die
Money like waters, pouring away
Greatly in debt, crimes still high
Many things wrong, what use is "say"

They hear us not, this government
A herd like in school--ignoring us "lows"
All around the world, peace rally movements
Millions and millions as Guiness Knows

Now in the records--"long lines of protests"
For six years it raged, unheard, unheard
If this is all real--oh God be blessed
You thought we had minds (now that's absurd)

What was the reason--this Iraqi War
Fear, hate, revenge, or simply disgust?
Nevertheless, Those only emotions before
Now look how fast our "control" turned to dust

Nay some say, one million people ain't enough
Why we've got big guns and those tanks alike
As for those College students acting all tough
We're shoot them again if they try another strike

So I lift my cup and drink my bloodthirsty fill
To death, to mankind (to how long they may last)
To war, to peace (though only one voice fulfilled)
to those who live scarred and disabled from the past

-To I who sit around every night and day
With not enough virtues to mend what we pay

First of all, I have to comment on the title. It seems to be vague enough to have the reader completely surprised by the actual topic of the poem. I, personally, love the title.

The only thing that you could possibly improve on in this poem is the word choice. The words are fairly basic, and there isn't a lot of variety.

The imagery and rhythm is great, though. It was a really interesting read, I haven't read anything quite like this before. You've definitely stated your point well. Nice work!
