The Bottle

by Lyndsay Kalyta   Apr 3, 2007

You hold on to that bottle
Like it's your best friend
But would someone who cared for you
Bring your life to an end

You say you ain't dependent
As you drink another down
You've sunk so far into this mess
That she fears you're going to drown

Why can't you let go
Of the bottle you hide behind
If you're looking for happiness
This ain't the place where, it, you'll find

You'll find it in the eyes
Of a girl who's ten years old
You were too consumed with the bottle
That you forgot to watch her grow

No one should have to go through life
Watching her hero stumble through
Your little girl's praying on her knees
For the day she'll see the real you

Now if you won't change for yourself
Do it for the girl who's got your eyes
Change her tears into a smile
Let go of the bottle and be her hero tonight
