Who Tends The Heart

by Twisted Heart   Apr 4, 2007

Who tends the heart of this ocean
As its rage beats in each wave
Against the sullen night it crashes
With a soul that lost its way.

As hunger falls from brinks of heartache
And tosses ships like flicks of reeds
Inside the belly of the ocean
Comes the struggle just to breathe.

A swirling storm against the soul
That lives beneath the darkened pool
Takes fast the mounting of the waves
Admonishing the water's fuel.

Anger rises from the distance
Tempers flair against the night
Rugged hands with fists of thunder
Take heed the will to stand and fight.

Dark circles form upon the surface
Pulling down all in its way
Comes the pits of mass destruction
The peril of the sea's display.

Upon the shore comes tidal's passion
A devastation of its path
destroying all the dwellers fashion
With fist in anger of its wrath.

Then all at once the anger's faded
And gentle waves lap on the shore
Its like the ocean's been sedated
Serenity has come once more.

Who tends the heart of this ocean
Who comes to calm the rugged breath
And holds its soul with such devotion
Beneath its briny depths.

Wow Jeannie, what a beautiful piece. Your imagery is brilliant! I could feel the power of the ocean, could smell the ocean. It's like I was there. I always feel that it is difficult to form images with poetry, since most of mine are about emotion. Very, very nice work.
