Lies On Our Lips

by Tasha   Apr 13, 2007

We keep on saying that this is love,
But we turn away when push goes to shove.
Telling each other that this is meant to be.
But behind these fake smiles, we truly disagree.

Using each other only for an emotional boost.
It's the well known status that we're afraid to lose.
I'm sure you wouldn't mind if I put you higher.
Yet you blame and look down on me, when lost all desire.

If you give into me and tell me what I want to hear.
Then the shock and pain of this relationship isn't as severe.
We take each others happiness to our own benefit.
Yet we take it without please, leaving emotions counterfeit.

We pretend that we understand, but the truth is that we don't.
Acting as if we'll stay forever, but obviously we won't.
There's a purpose for this relationship, but it isn't love.
Pushing each other down, to see who can get above.

Yet we don't really seem to mind that this is all so fake.
Because we are the kind of people, who get what we can take.
So keep on pretending because it's not killing me.
We'll stay together because this is what we were told to be. -

Wow, i really like this poem. Although I dont know the situation, I kinda felt it slightly if that makes sense - and to make a reader feel something is a sign of a great writer - keep writing. By the way the saying you use when push goes to shove, i've always heard it said when push comes to shove but i'm not actually sure how it goes, just something you might wanna check, if you like. 5/5 =)
