Pretence - She

by Hanna   Apr 26, 2007

*PN: I wrote this a few days ago after suffering another time at school. I realised how many people put on a face or an act to fit in or to be accepted into a group, into 'society'. Hence this poem where I sum up my thoughts on this subject. Please leave a comment on what you like or how I could improve. Thank you for your time. Enjoy!

Parted lips emit a sigh,
As she, the girl, watched the world go by,
Always asking, wondering why,
Until the day she caught an eye.

It was then that she saw,
Through the mask that they wore,
All the lies and no more,
Than a puppet, than a wh**e.

Here she saw a tool, a disguise,
A pretence preaching lies,
A try to silence all the cries,
But they remained held in her eyes.

A false smile, a forced grin,
Hide the pain that we are in,
Shun a life full of sin,
And shun the one that we have been.

Be nothing more than a face,
A facade for all our days,
Allowing us to erase,
The memories that we replace.

For we don't fit in here,
Spend our life, live in fear,
Never let another near,
Without the shedding of a tear.

Live, instead, security,
Live a false identity,
Being the one they wish to see,
Why not who you want to be?

Let them judge, let them brand,
For she's the girl who took a stand,
For she could never understand,
A life following anothers demand.
