Midnight snack

Midnight Snack

In my lonely sunken chair, I played a game of solitaire
When suddenly there came a very strong desire I couldn't ignore!
A gnawing sense of hunger took me; deep inside my stomach shook me,
Avalanched and overtook me, sending me straight through the door.
"I'll just have a little something," echoed on the kitchen floor -
Something small and nothing more.

As I pondered, lost and tired, hungry, weak, and uninspired,
Cereal? No, milk's expired! tragedy in liquid form.
Maybe I'll just go to bed and try to fall asleep instead
Of troubling my weary head with tricky questions anymore.
Yes, at nearly 1 AM I must not stand here anymore.
I shall stand here nevermore.

As I walked towards my bed, I felt in me a sense of dread
Then suddenly I stopped and said "I know exactly what's in store..
I'll try to sleep but toss and turn as deep inside my stomach burns
The craving that so deeply yearns for sustenance, which I adore.
There is no escaping that which, sorrowfully, I so adore!
A midnight treat! And nothing more."

I snuck into the kitchen, peering, and through cabinets went leering
Searching for that snack that soothes that Satan in my stomach's core
Suddenly my eyes caught sight! The perfect treat for my delight
Was sitting in the sullen night behind the lofty pantry door.
Oh yes! Delicious snack that I have found behind my pantry door.
I shall hunger nevermore!
