Lady of the Night IV - The Twilight

by Brad Champagne   May 13, 2007

When last we spoke the dragons wrath was ended,
And our hero home returned.
Twenty years have gently passed in silent peace,
To set the newest stages.

The lands of waste have long ago been mended,
For the fruits of labor earned
Produced a surplus that seemed would never cease;
A bounty for the ages.

Some past and present exploits courage showed them
True and noble leaders who
Never for an instant forgot the lowly,
Showing men the will of all.

When once the fields peasants tried then to condemn,
They did show they truest hue
By proving that their int'rest wasn't solely
For their purse, but for the thrall.

Within this rich time the Queen two sons had borne;
The heirs of such a kingdom
As to them seemed not a gift but spoil of war,
In their heated jealousy.

Their might from the king's own blood dwelt in scorn
Of the other's own freedom.
Their land and people they used to settle score
Of the cause so perfectly.

As in times of yore shared rule insulted kings
To claim their ancient birthright,
Of which but have is royal,
Unknown to victims treason.

Battle rages days and years and ever rings
Upon the hazy moor's night.
Peace, for with her being toward she toiled
A death with scarce a reason.

A kingdom's bride in grave the peoples pitied
Sorrowful her final days
In trying to pursue her two sons cease-fire,
Requests two late days delayed.

Lonesome the king, with death princes do agree
To amend such warring ways
Tall statues soon arose to again inspire
All love as in life she saved.

One more installment of this story I hold,
Locked within a simple heart.
Again in time it all shall truly be told
Till then again you embark.
