Who's loving James?

by Bradley Peter   May 28, 2007

Love was so confusing
For seventeen year old James
Not as simple as others
He was flooded with spiteful names

People thought the worse
And he felt the world's rejection
People threatened his life
So he started to carry protection

But the abuse didn't stop
And James began to lose his mind
He didn't know what to do
Hated being hated by all mankind

Many shared their anger
And so very few had love to give
Fewer had love for him
Oh what a sad life he had to live

Cried alone in his room
Began to despise what he's become
Started to heel the pain
By cutting deep until he was numb

Then a few days later
When life got a little easier to bare
He died a brutal murder
With the words 'Queers best beware!'

I liked this poem. It reminded me, in some ways, of "Superman's Dead(Revised)" by another writer on this site, Lonely Romeo. It confused me until I got to the last stanza, but then I had a moment of clarification. Nice work.
